Malika’s Poetry Kitchen celebrates 10 years of fabulous poetry

… with a line-up of some of the finest poets in town who are past or current members of the collective.

Headlined by Malika Booker (Royal Shakespeare Company poet-in-residence), who founded the collective in her kitchen, the show also features Inua Ellams (The 14th Tale, National Theatre) and Aoife Mannix(Saturday Live, BBC Radio 4). Stirring the poetry pot will be your host, the witty and entertaining Jill Abram with additional seasoning fromJanett Plummer, Heather Taylor, Cath Drake, Naomi Woddis, Jocelyn Page, Melanie Mauthner, Mary Renouf, John Sutton and Patricia Foster.
Malika’s Poetry Kitchen is supported by Spread the Word, and this special celebration is presented in association with Apples and Snakes.

Party in Newcastle in November

If you are in Newcastle Upon Tyne on 14^th November I’m performing for Apples and Snakes and regular Radikal Words, Tyneside Cinema Cafe Bar, 9pm – end of year Slam party.

Slam Poetry is back for our last show of the year and the Xmas party slam – and this time its Love vs Lust. It’s Christmas party time again, and we’re celebrating a year of brilliant acts with a night of incredible performance poetry (as well as hats and crackers of course!). Thanks to the support of Apples and Snakes we are thrilled to add to the line up of the Slam a guest appearance of the fabulous CATH DRAKE.

Poetry Slams are a high-energy, fast and furious competition between performance poets. Each slammer will have three minutes to wow the audience with their words and performance and then the judges vote, scoring on content and style. The FunFed have bundles of fun on offer, messing about with words is just one workshop you can do, check out the programme and prioritise fun in your life!

Wordplay with Cath Drake: Mess about with your imagination, spark quick wit, and find those leftfield ideas you didn’t know you had. Playing with words can be loads of fun. This workshop is a mix of storytelling, wordy games, and writing individually and with the group. Too often when we write we worry if it’s any good or if it’s right or correct, but when the focus is on fun you’ll be surprised where it can take you. Of course, you don’t have to have any writing experience at all, but you never know, you might write some amazing creations! Bring pen and paper.
